Investigating Materials

As part of our topic in year 4, keeping warm, children were set the challenge of building a shelter with limited materials.

The aim was for a single piece of A4 paper to be able to hold the weight of 300g without breaking!
 
Working together in pairs, the children designed and made their very own shelter using materials such as wood, foil, plasticene, card and foam. 
 
As you can see, from the photo’s below, there were some amazing ideas and finished products. Do you think all the shelters shown below could hold the 300g weight?
