Friction in Year 3!

In Year 3, we have been learning all about the force of Friction! We learnt that Friction keep you on your bottom because if you didn’t have Friction then you’d go whooooooooo wheeee BANG!!!!!! Straight off of your chair! It also helps you to walk because the Friction on your shoes helps you stay on the ground. We had to answer a question: which shoes had the most Friction? Our choices were high heels, slippers and trainers. The answer was Slippers because they stick to the ground and are really soft and warm. Then we had another question: which shoes had the least Friction? The answer was high heels because there is not as much of the sole on the ground to create the friction.

We tested lots of material including felt, bubble wrap, Lino, plastic, carpet and correlated plastic, to find out which caused the most friction as a car travelled down the ramp. We found out the the less distance the car travelled must mean that the material causes more friction!

Here are some photos of our friction experiment!
