Today, Mr Williams class and some of Miss Towell’s class went on a visit to Wentworth Castle Gardens.
We all had a fantastic day in the great outdoors extending our learning of ‘Planting and Growing’, our Science topic this term.
In the morning, we went on a tree hunt around the gardens, identifying different types of trees using a key. We were fascinated by the different leaf shapes and the many shapes and sizes of the trees we saw!
We also looked in the Victorian Flower Garden and investigated which colour flowers the bees and insects were most attracted to, as well as learning about what each part of the plant is used for.
After re-energising at lunch time from our busy morning, we visited the old castle to learn about when it was built and who owned it.
Following this, we went on an exciting bug hunt in the plants around the castle and did some leaf art using a variety of different materials we found around the gardens.
Miss Towell and Mr Williams were struggling to carry all of the leaves, pine cones, sticks and sweet chestnuts that the children collected!
What a fantastic day we all had!
