Rangoli patterns in Year 4C

This week in RE we have been looking at Rangoli patterns relating to Hinduism. We discovered that Rangoli patterns are a sign of wealth and Hindus often display them in the front of their homes to welcome their guests. Rangoli patterns are usually very colourful and symmetrical! Using this knowledge, we began to create our own! We looked very carefully at the types of shapes and colours to include, making sure that the patterns were symmetrical! To start with, we divided our square piece of paper into eight sections. Using tracing paper, we designed a pattern for one of the sections and used this paper to repeat the pattern in the rest of the sections. After that, we used a black marker pen to define our design. Finally, we used water colour paints to brighten up our patterns! Take a look at some of our Rangoli designs below…
