Calculating Area Game in Y4/5G

An active numeracy lesson finding the area, using a dice. This is a simple, yet enjoyable learning activity that you could play at home with your children.

All you need is 2 players, dice and a piece of squared paper!

Instructions

Both players take it in turn to roll the dice twice, the player then records the area onto the squared paper, for example if player 1 rolls a 3 and then a 6 the player will record a shape with an area of 3×6. This is because the children know how to times the length by the width to give them the total area. Play then continues to player 2. The winner is the person with the largest area built at the end!
