Today, Mrs Greenwood’s Numeracy class had the chance to solve calculations using a different resource to work out their given sums.

The resource they used was Numicon a multi – sensory maths resource which aims to build on and improve children’s mathematics skills. If you would like to know more about Numicon, then please follow this link.

The children had to use inverse operations to complete the calculations set. They then had to record their findings and represent their equation using the Numicon shapes.

However, there was a catch, or rather a challenge to the activity. Working in pairs they challenged one another by taking the correct amount of Numicon for a given maths sentence (not showing their partner) they then jumbled up the Numicon and gave the Numicon shapes to their partner for them to find the correct calculation!
