This week in numeracy, the children were set the task of making a mechanism that could be part of a set design in a theatre. The children created a design and came up with a wide range of ideas, such as pulley systems and catapults. The children started off by designing their mechanism, they used their measuring, ratio and area and perimeter skills to draw out their design. They also thought about the science behind their mechanism, which linked to forces and materials. Although some groups faced some issues in making their mechanisms, they showed resilience and were able to problem solve as a group.
