In Y4k we have had a class discussion about how important attending school really is. We discussed receiving the attendance certificate and what the children must do in order for our class to receive a certificate or even win the overall attendance certificate.

Our discussions included why our children thought it was important to come to school and we all agreed that If you don’t come to school you won’t get a good education!

From this, our class came up with the question:

Does it matter if you miss one day?

Some children raised that there are times where someone is really unwell so are unable to attend school, but from this, the discussion moved onto “What if someone had an absent day once a month, every month?” It was a surprise for the children to learn just how many absent days this would equate to each school year. Many admitted that they hadn’t thought about attendance that way before!
