This afternoon HM Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Andrew J Coombe, came to our school to award The British Empire Medal.

The Medal was awarded to Hilary Ford, a very special lady who had supported and encouraged reading at Herringthorpe Junior School.

The British Empire Medal is a British medal awarded for meritorious civil or military service worthy of recognition by the crown.

This was an excellent experience for the children who also were given the opportunity to ask some questions to the Lord-Lieutenant.
