We used a range of instruments to help us demonstrate how sounds are made and how sound travels.

We put rice grains on a drum aww part of our practical learning. We discussed how energy creates vibrations and this makes sound waves.

We then used a data logger to measure a range of sounds that included: knocking on a door, children singing, children marching and clapping. The children discussed how sound waves can travel through air and different materials.

We extended this by measuring outdoor noise at playtime to make a comparison – the sound measured lower outside and surprised us.
