We were extremely lucky in year 3 today as we all took part in a fantastic workshop ran by violist and composer Amanda Johnson, from Kidology Arts.

First of all, we listened to a story and heard all about the journey of the Fig tree all the way from Turkey to the banks of the River Don in Sheffield and the River Rother in Ritherham. They began to grow here to due the hotter temperatures in the rivers, which was caused by the Steel works that were based on the banks in the 18th and 19th century. They formed Fig Forests and it’s so fascinating that they still produce fig fruit now, so far away from where they originally come from.

After this, we split into small groups to recreate each part of the Fig Forest story and explored instruments to put together a soundscape. Our finished pieces will be taken away and used in the gallery!!
