Of all the questions generated these are the ones which we thought were the most philosophical.

Why is it alone?

How far is it out to sea?

Where does it belong?

After discussion many ideas were suggested that the lifebelt marked something dangerous, or it was the site of some awful disaster or that it had innocently fallen from a sailing vessel.
