Head Teacher’s Welcome Letter

As Executive Head Teacher, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our website, we are very proud of your children’s achievements at Herringthorpe Junior School and we know that this is one way we can share them with you.

Our school mission statement states our commitment to ‘engaging hearts and minds in the joy of learning’ and I am fortunate to have such a talented team who go ‘the extra mile’. My staff all offer great commitment to your children and to the community of Herringthorpe too. Teamwork, creativity, taking responsibility, empathy and a high sense of personal self-esteem are just some of the qualities that we aim to develop in your children. To be able to do this we need to work in partnership with you.

This website is designed to be a valuable source of school news and information that will help you to understand our vibrant curriculum and the wonderful opportunities open to all. It also has many exciting links to engage and support our pupils’ learning, so please encourage your children to use these, especially Education City, Sum Dog, Espresso Home Access and LanguageNut (which supports our French teaching and learning), your child has personal logons for these. Please take time to browse the galleries and blogs, and you will love the photographs; you can even watch films made by the children!

We are proud of our outstanding provision and because of this we support other schools in challenging circumstances. Our collaboration with Greasbrough Primary School has been an amazing success, with the school emerging rapidly from Special Measures in a less than eighteen months. Well done to all! We are now looking forward to our next challenge at Roughwood Primary in supporting them from Require Improvement to at least good.

Each year the school goes from strength to strength; we have recently achieved the 3rd Millenium award for outstanding practice in ICT and we received a special Artsmark Gold award for achieving this for the forth time. However, our greatest achievement must be the way we have all worked so hard together to ensure the minimum disruption to learning during our new expansion programme.

Please remember that if your child has been to the Praise Pod you can bring your mobile telephone in and we will Bluetooth the clip to you or we can email it.

Enjoy our website.
